Trauma & PTSD Therapy for Abergavenny
I'm Simon Jones, a trauma-informed psychotherapist specialising in trauma and PTSD. My practice is based in Ebbw Vale, and a large share of my clients travel from Abergavenny and the surrounding villages. If you're looking for specialist trauma therapy in the Abergavenny area, I offer in-person sessions at a private, discreet space, and secure online sessions if travelling isn't practical.
When Trauma Won't Let Go
Trauma isn't just a difficult memory. It's an experience your nervous system couldn't process at the time, and it stays with you, in how you sleep, how you react, how safe you feel in your own body.
You might recognise some of this:
- Flashbacks, intrusive memories or nightmares
- Feeling constantly on edge, scanning for danger
- Emotional numbness, or struggling to feel close to people
- Avoiding places, people or conversations that bring it back
- Broken sleep, panic, or anxiety that seems to come from nowhere
- Anger or reactions that feel out of proportion, and you don't know why
This can follow a single event, an accident, an assault, a bereavement, or build up over years through abuse, neglect, or repeated exposure to distressing situations. Whatever brought you here, it can be worked through.
I work with:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Complex trauma and developmental wounds
- Combat-related trauma and military service experiences
- Recovery after abuse, assault or violence
- Anxiety and panic rooted in trauma
- Depression and emotional numbness from unprocessed trauma
- Grief and loss following traumatic events
Why Clients Travel for Specialist Trauma Work
Specialist trauma therapy isn't available on every high street. General counselling can help with a great deal, but trauma is held in the nervous system as well as in memory, and it usually needs a different approach.
What that means in practice:
- —Trauma-focused, not general. Trauma and PTSD are my main area of work, not one item on a long list.
- —15+ years of clinical experience, with a specialism in trauma and PTSD.
- —Body as well as mind. Alongside psychotherapy and CBT, I work with nervous system regulation, so your body learns it's safe again, not just your thoughts.
- —Availability. NHS mental health waits in the area can run long. I can usually offer an initial appointment sooner, get in touch to check current availability.
- —Flexibility. If the drive doesn't work for you, secure online sessions are available UK-wide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer online sessions for Abergavenny clients?
Yes. Secure online sessions are available and suit most of the trauma work I do. Some clients mix the two, in person to begin with, online once things are established.
How quickly can I be seen?
Get in touch and I'll let you know what's currently available, I keep this as up to date as possible.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book directly. You don't need a diagnosis or a referral to start.
Do you specialise in trauma, or do you see people for other things too?
Trauma and PTSD are my specialisation. I also work with anxiety, depression and stress, which very often sit alongside trauma.
What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?
That's normal, and it's exactly what the first conversation is for. There's no obligation to continue.
